Both teams were off to a fast start, but it was the visitors who took the lead in the third minute as Daniel Ginczek turned a free-kick from Hiroshi Kiyotake into the goal and despite Luke Varney appearing to have saved the day by kicking off the line, the referee declared it to be a goal after consulting a linesman. United went on the attack and forced two quick corners, but they came to nothing and the visitors were soon back on top and Paul Green thwarted Daniel Ginczek. After thirty minutes a cushioned header by Luke Varney provided a first real chance for Ross McCormack but his shot went wide. United came back into the game as the half was coming to an end and good build up play by Luke Murphy and Luke Varney gave Ross McCormack the chance to cross to the far post, but it was too high for Paul Green to connect. Just on half time a defensive mix up in the United defence let in Daniel Ginczek but his shot sailed well over the bar. Leeds started the second half well but it was the visitors that created the first opening of the half in the fiftieth minute but Paddy Kenny made a fine save from Markus Feulner. Five minutes later United made their reply and Ross McCormack made Raphael Schafer pull off a great one-handed save at full stretch. After that play became more fiery with several aggressive challenges and off the ball confrontations and it looked like the Referee was loosing his grip on the game but, in between the hacking, Daniel Ginczek hit the post and Lee Peltier had a header kicked off the visitor's goal-line. Leeds sent on Adam Drury for Stephen Warnock, Michael Tonge for Paul Green and Noel Hunt for Luke Varney in the sixty-third minute. Nurnberg replaced Horacio Javier Pinola with Marvin Plattenhardt a minute later and then sent on Josip Drmic for Hiroshi Kiyotake five minutes later. The dangerous Daniel Ginczek sealed the win for the visitors when he headed home from point-blank range from Berkay Dabanli's accurate corner. On seventy-five minutes Matt Smith replaced Dominic Poleon and Timo Gebhart was replaced by Mike Frantz for Nurnberg. The visitors replaced Markus Feulner by Niklas Stark in the eighty-first minute and four minutes later Robert Mak gave way to Alexander Esswein. With less than ten minutes left on the clock there was another mix-up in the Leeds defence which almost gave Nurnberg a third goal but Niklas Stark's poor effort went just wide and in the dying minutes Timothy Chandler fired in a shot which Paddy Kenny pushed round the post to keep the final margin down to two. The Unused Substitutes were Leeds: Alex Cairns, Danny Pugh, Michael Brown, David Norris, Zac Thompson, Ryan Hall and Simon Lenighan, FC Nurnberg: Martin Angha, Patrick Rakovsky and Markus Mendler. Referee Andy Haines (Tyne & Wear) Crowd 9,455.
